Auditions for our 2011-2012 Season

The Stagecrafters holds open auditions for each production, which typically consist of cold readings from the script.

Audition dates for the full 2011-21 season are listed below. Each session begins at 7:30 PM, but we ask that those auditioning for the first time at The Stagecrafters arrive at 7:00 PM. No appointment is necessary.  All roles are non-equity, non-paying unless otherwise stated. Headshots and/or resumes are useful, but by no means required. Approximately two weeks before each audition, a readthrough will be held for people who want to become familiar with the play before auditioning, or for anyone who wants to be part of a small group reading a play aloud. This session is not a pre-audition - just a means for interested people to get acquainted with the text by reading aloud in a group setting.

We do not always cast our productions in one session. If you are interested in trying out but miss the scheduled audition, give us a call: we may be having call-backs.

Questions? Call (readthrough) 215-242-4811 or (auditions) 215-247-9257 or 215-753-8773.

Volunteer at the Stagecrafters

Would you want to find out what live theater is all about?

Would you want to help to put a great show together ... by running stage lighting, creating costumes, devising and building ingenious sets, finding or constructing unique props, developing a publicity campaign ... ?

Persons from all walks of life are welcome, and a great range of interests and abilities is sought. Right now the area of great need for the theater is in technical operations, particularly the setting and running of lighting and sound, which is one of the most exciting aspects of creating a show. Also sought is staffing for set construction, costuming, and properties, as well as a number of “back-office” capacities: publicity, web-based media, ticketing, and fundraising. Members of the organization will be on hand to tell visitors about what goes into creating a successful stage production, as well as the many opportunities to volunteer one’s time and skills. Expertise in certain areas is a plus, but for those with no particular experience, skilled staff is eager to provide comprehensive on-the-job training.

The Stagecrafters is located in Chestnut Hill at 8130 Germantown Avenue. If you wish to learn more about volunteering opportunities, please call the theater’s main number at any time, 215-247-8881.

Founded in 1929, The Stagecrafters, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization, is dedicated to making live stage productions of the highest quality available to residents of the Philadelphia area. It is a core of loyal and committed volunteers who provide the foundation for maintaining this theater’s more than eight-decades-long tradition of excellence in the art and craft of live performance. The yearly drive for volunteers serves to introduce potential volunteers to the theater in a friendly and informal atmosphere.

Ticket sales cover only a fraction of the cost of mounting productions and maintaining our property. In particular, our handsome historic buildings are in constant need of maintenance, repair, and restorative renovation. This season we have initiated a major drive to raise money for significant improvements to our premises with the inauguration of the Sally Minter Memorial Fund, in tribute to our late president, a notable presence in this organization for over fifty years.
